Stormy Week, Part 2

The season of El Nino is upon us. The only time it is not unusual to have a full week of rain is during the El Nino, a condition of a massive body of warm water in the pacific that diverts storms normally headed to the pacific northwest to the California coast. It happens every dozen years or so, and California desperately needs the water whenever it appears.

After five days of rain, Mount San Antonio, also known as Mt. Baldy, wears a blanket of snow.

Stormy Week

It's rare in Southern California, but it has been storming since Monday, and as I post this, North Fontana is in the midst of a hail storm.

So, Albert King, Stormy Monday.

Angela Bofill I Try

A sweet serenade that is timeless.

...but we didn't hear you, Marvin

37 years ago, Marvin Gaye released his breakthrough album, "What's Going On" where he fretted the state of the environment (Mercy, Mercy Me) and told us we didn't need to escalate a war. You were right then, and you are still right today.

Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes - Bad Luck

I don't know what else to say. Blake Griffin, rookie stud number one draft pick with the game to become a top 20 player in his first year, is out six weeks with a fractured kneecap he suffered in the final pre-season game. Let's hope the training staff is capable of keeping the young man strong.

I have selfish reasons for being bummed out: I have a Clipper 12-pack, section 215, with all the top teams from around the league coming to town. The Clippers, who won 19 games last year, are bound to be better, if they can only have a little good luck.

Law of averages plainly states that chance go around
But if you want to know the truth about it,
I'll tell you what's holding you down,
You got BAD LUUUUUUCK!

UNLV Football Home Opener 9/5/09

Gerald and Terrence went to the UNLV Home Opener against Sacramento State. I love college football, and can't imagine going to a college that didn't have a football team.

Final score, UNLV 38, Sac St. 3

But I have to say I am spoiled by having attended FAMU, with that marching band, and it is difficult for me to be impressed by a typical college halftime show. In case you've never seen the Marching 100, here is a sample.
